Listening, Writing, Living, Surfing

You gotta hate it… when you’re in the mood to write but for some reason you’re brain is just blank. Thats me tonight I’m afraid! Quite comfortable in bed with the new Jamiroquai Album – Rock Dust Light Star and loving every minute of it. It feels rather weird to be cruising around my flat with my big Sony Earphones on plugged into my CD-Walkman! Lol, yes I have not ripped it to mp3 to go on the iPod… its actually quite amazing how much better the sound quality is coming off the CD, sorta makes me wanna pull out all the old CDs (oh wait, I left them all in Joburg when I moved to CT :p) I actually kinda enjoy it when I’m back in Joburg raiding the old CD cabinet and pumping some of my more old school CDs. Lately though, I have been having a major urge to buy myself a sweet little old school record player and buying a few LPs this Jamiroquai album is available on Vinyl… that along with a strobe light lol! Yeeehaaa!!

So last week wednesday I ‘celebrated’ two years of life in CT. I still can’t believe everything that has happened to me in that time. Yes I cant believe I am still here but that aside its been a relatively upwardly positive experience. As I was telling a friend recently life is not to be lived feeling numb & nothing. Even during your worst breakup (yes admittedly it was totally crap) at least you’re alive you’re feeling something weather it be good or bad! So even through the lows of my life in CT, I suppose they old changed me for the better… I am a better person now than I was 2 years ago, probably a little bit more naughty but hey why not! All you CT peeps, don’t get too excited…. *cough cough* my ‘Reasons to not live in CT List’ is still very much a work in progress! LOL!

Having breakfast at Knead on Sunday, I was watching all the surfers cruising in and out of the water and I think the surfing bug got under my skin just a little. A few years back now (2007) I did a few surf lessons whilst here on holiday and I really enjoyed it… so considering that I live minutes from the beach I think its time to smashing few more sessions in the water with some slightly smaller boards… as much as a 6’5″ guy needs a 9′ board its just a little to big for my liking… thinking of having a go on maybe a 6′ board if such a thing even exists lol! I think the visual of me on a smaller board however would just be ridiculous! Its time to get myself plugged into the surfing community so I know when the good days are! Like they say, ‘when in rome…..’

Heart Globals Food Tents

Last night I spent the evening at the Green Drinks event held in Newlands. The green drinks events are to organised to bring together environmentally minded people and other interested parties to meet, learn and share ideas for sustainability and conscious living. February’s theme is Earth:Food and thus brought together people from Slow Food Mother City, Wild Organics and Kwalapa. However I was really impressed by the Food Tent initiative by Heart Global

Food TentsThe initiative is pretty simple and straight forward, setting up what effectively becomes very much like a mini green house but using 50% shade netting. It stands 2m high, 4m wide and 9m long and can be erected within 45minutes. The tents are then filled with veggies that with in 6 weeks, Heart Global claim, will feed approximate fifty people per month. By placing them at schools, aid organisations and the like they assist communities and children.

Not only are the Food Tents producing food and an income (via sales of the produce), but when used in schools they become a great educational tool for teaching children.
