Keep on Moving!!!

Technically its a true statement… but when you take it literally as I am now (currently in the throws of moving flats) it kinda sucks! I refuse to ever move again… well once more and that will either be into a place I have just bought, or back to joburg! The stress of moving in cape town starts from day one with some serious flat hunting all with the looming pressure of finding a place within the same month that you gave notice on your current place! All the stress and suckiness though my new place is gonna be awesome and I can see myself spending quite sometime there!!! It puts me a block from the beach (the reason I move to ct in the first place). I’m amped… it’s big enough to entertain friends and even have people stay over. The invites to all my joburg friends have already gone out!!! My only concern… rust!!! So close to the sea that I can hear and smell it can only mean some serious rust damage!

On a side note I met someone tonight (not mentioning any names) that is also not the biggest fan of ct… exciting to know I’m not alone in the world. I have already found 2 others at work. The rebelling begins!!! Hehe!!

ps.. exciting news, this is my first post made entirely on my andoid phone! Whoop! :)

Twitter made us Virtually Insane??

Imagine with me for a minute that you are spending a regular day at a shopping mall. You are going about your business as usual, in and out of shops, thinking to yourself about something you like or something someone was wearing that looked oh so horrible. You walk from shop to shop passing people by in the walkway hardly looking at them or barely making eye contact. Nothing unexpected… nothing out of the norm.

Suddenly though a complete stranger walks past you and says, ‘*yawn*’ or even, ‘Just realised I’m starving!’ You look at them kinda funny, or shocked. ‘Why did they just say that?’, you think. The next person walks past and suddenly they say, ‘painting my nails’… you’re probably thinking these people have lost their minds. You carry on and a few people go by without saying a word and you begin to think that everything is normal again and you just had two weird people go past you. You notice a guy bobbing his head to music that he’s listening to in his iPod he gets closer as you walk and suddenly says, ‘#nowplaying tiesto – adagio strings’ and just walks on by.

You can see where this is going. Don’t you think Twitter is like one giant shopping mall where everyone inside is wondering around talking to themselves, saying whats on their minds. A lot however are at coffee shops or restaurants @mentioning each other. What if this were real life and people were willing to enter a conversation with someone as easily as they do on twitter. Consider this was happening for real, how many people would you meet on a day out… how many awesome conversations would you have with complete strangers simply because you were easily able to find something interesting to talk about… how many great friends could you make?? Lots!!

Heh, its effectively a big tweetup but where everyone talks loud enough for everyone else to hear!!

Seeking Happiness

Happiness by 'sciondriver' on FlickrAt its simplest it does not take much to sustain life. We simply require food and sleep, nothing more! Okay I know that’s going pretty extreme, but its technically true.

Sustaining life is actually one of the things most of us take for granted, we do it automatically without realising it.

So what then drives us?

Hope? Hope for Happiness?

Most of us are seeking happiness in life. We all have in our heads this vision of the future, a time of our lives where we have no worries, no concerns or desires! We dream of owning that House, or that Car maybe even traveling and finally going on that trip we have always wanted to do!

Are you looking forward to that one time in life where you will be totally happy?! I hate to break it to you, but time is fleeting… how long will that moment in time last?

Question!

My question to you right now is, whats stopping you from achieving happiness now? What is holding you back from all those things you desire? I can hear your answers now… my job, my family, my need for money to live! All of these are totally valid points.

Statistics from 2008 claimed, ‘If you earn more than R5000 a month you are living in the top 5% of the country!’ Its a pretty scary statistic. Consider the other 95%… what are they living on?

Sunset Hopping by 'reebs*' on FlickrHere is the kicker! This is it! This is Life! You’re living it right now… yes things may look up in the future but life started happening the minute you were born. We have to break free of the mind set that happiness is something you find down the road through money, marriage or kids. Those do not guarantee happiness, at their simplest they are just steps in life.

<gap?>

The expectation is often greater than the reward!

I love that statement, so often the expectation of a holiday overseas out weighs the actual trip. This statement gives a new viewpoint of seeking happiness now, are you simply feeling unhappy because you’re still waiting for happiness to happen?! How about rather looking at it from the viewpoint that it is GOING to happen, create an expectation of happiness. This is it! This is Life! Seeking happiness now in the small moments of life is not hard! Just look around you!

What is it that you desire?! Are they material goods? Will material goods bring you the happiness you are actually seeking? Is that Aston Martin really gonna change your life? Its just a car for getting from A to B! Chances are it will just become another item on your insurance list and that’s just going to bump up your premiums.

Am I advocating an anti-materialistic viewpoint? Not at all… I cannot wait to buy a new digital camera, but I am not putting pressure on it to bring me happiness. I am expecting it to take photographs of the happiness that already exists in life.

Piatto – Cresta

Greek Salad Review

A run of the mill, standard Greek Salad

Rating – 4/10

Piatto Cresta

All my past experiences of the Piatto in Cresta have been great! This salad however left me longing for something better!

Presentation

I have decided to add the presentation of the salads into my reviews…

The Piatto salad came in a regular bowl, with the salad dressing stuck in the corner of the bowl on top of the salad itself, over all the presentation came across as nothing special!
As soon as I see a salad being served in a bowl I automatically jump to the assumption that the bowl will be filled with lettuce, and all other ingredients will be piled on the top. The Piatto salad did not disappoint my assumptions!

The Cons

It had less than half a tomato?! Seriously… with all the local petrol price increases I didn’t expect tomato to become the most expensive part of a salad?! So why are we skimping on the tomato these days?
The salad really was a no fuss, nothing special, pile of lettuce in a bowl with some veggies thrown on top.
I am really loosing respect for the salads served with the ‘soft gooey’ feta cheese, feta cheese should crumble. I know this contradicts some of my past reviews but I am beginning to wonder if this is the cheap alternative to real feta cheese!

The Pros

The olives were great, not to rich, yet flavorful!
I tasted the salad dressing before I even poured it onto the salad (just in case it was terrible), and I was pleasantly surprised. It appeared to be home made, as it was a dressing I had never tasted before. It came across quite strong on its own, but once poured onto the salad it complimented the veggies perfectly.

Summary

I wouldn’t go out of my way to order this one as a starter. Stick to their Camembert cheese!! :)
