Table Mountain Challenge 2009

TMC_Halfway00Saturday the 12th of August was the perfect day for the Table Mountain Challenge 2009, the sun was shining and the wind had a gentle cooling effect which I am sure the runners truly appreciated! I cannot speak from experience since I did not run the race, but I can imagine that the Table Mountain Challenge really is one of the most amazing trail runs in South Africa! The race covers 35kms traveling all the way around Table Mountain. Starting at Kloof Nek in town it heads along the southern suburbs side of the mountain all the way down to Constania Neck at which point the runners begin their long trip back towards town on the Atlantic seaboard side. The route takes the runners along paths surrounded by fynbos and forests.

The turnout was great, not only were there family and friends out to support runners but spectators there to just watch the race! TMC_Halfway01Whilst waiting for the runner I was supporting to come through the halfway point I got chatting to a lady who had driven down with her husband from Joburg. She was also acting as support! We were the backup crew there to replenish the runners water and food supplies and make sure that they had all the correct items for the second half of the race.

Its great to see runners being attracted all the way from Joburg making the effort to come down and run the Table Mountain Challenge!

Congrats to all the runners that completed the race! Hope you all have nicely recovered from your run!
